Microchipping

Technology has enabled us with a maintenance-free, tamper-free, permanent method of identifying your pet via microchipping. Tags and collars can tear, break, or otherwise fail. Should your pet be lost or stolen, sharing photos on social media may be helpful, but it doesn’t always work. Plus, if someone finds your pet and uses public social networking to find you, your pet could be in danger of being claimed by strangers. Microchipping is an inexpensive, relatively painless, highly-effective, and permanent way to identify your pet and help ensure that they are returned to you should they ever be lost or stolen. Microchips last the life of your pet, and they are safely encapsulated so they pose no health threat to your pet.

How microchipping works: a tiny chip is inserted with a needle between the shoulder blades. The chip is encased in a non-toxic capsule; it is harmless and will feel like a normal injection, if your pet feels any discomfort at all. Once injected, you will register your pet with the microchipping company.

If your pet goes missing and is found, the registered chip has a unique number that can be read with a special scanner. All your pet’s rescuer has to do is bring them to a participating veterinarian or animal shelter. A microchipped pet can easily be identified and most veterinary offices will contact you directly. Lake City Animal Hospital offers microchipping to all clients in Acworth, Woodstock, Cartersville, or Kennesaw, Georgia, and the surrounding areas.
